I’ve not posted much about the Leafs in recent months. But I have devoted a fair bit of time to finishing a project I have been working on for a while. That is, a follow-up to the book I wrote back in 2013 called, “The Maple Leafs of My Youth” (Volume I).
I though at the time that I would have another series of stories and memories pulled together and set to go by probably 2015 or 2016. That “plan” has turned into 2018!
But the eBook is now completed at long last, and the extra time has given me an opportunity to add some recollections and stories I otherwise would not have been able to.
I’m hoping it will be available online within the next week—or in time for the new 2018-’19 NHL season and the Leaf opener on October 3 in Toronto against the Habs.
To be clear, this is not a book that will be of interest to those fans understandably looking for a discussion about the current Leaf squad. I know there is a great deal of hope and optimism about this year’s Leafs, and rightfully so. But there are plenty of great outlets out there for precisely that kind of dialogue.
This new eBook will more be geared toward those who were either around (like myself) during the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s, or those who have an interest in the way things were “back in the day”.
The earlier book was pretty much wall-to-wall memories of various Leaf players from those golden days (at least some of them were golden!). There is still plenty of that in what will be “Volume II”—great names, outstanding teams, and fond personal memories.
But there are also lots of stories about great Maple Leaf “rivals"- players who not only were tough on the Leafs but were also some of the greatest names in the history of the NHL.
For today, I just wanted to provide a bit of a heads up. The new eBook should be available online soon. I’ll keep you posted.
