After getting hammered 7-0 a week ago in Boston and trailing 3-0 after two periods last night, many might have expected the Leafs to go meekly into the night in the third period. They were on the road, playing the second game of a back-to-back.
It didn’t happen quite that way. It’s noteworthy that Jason Blake, like Grabovski the night before on the winning goal, created some havoc in the offensive zone to help create the Leafs first goal in the third period. Then Kulemin knocked a Bruin off the puck near the corner, creating a turnover and his own goal off a shot/pass by Komisarek from the point.
While there was some soft play (Kaberle’s wave at Recchi along the side boards in the neutral zone in the third period was particularly egregious), and giveaways galore, the often present effort was there, at least.
Good to see.
