Vintage Leaf Memories: A year later

Last September, Vintage Leaf Memories joined the blogosphere.  I’d enjoyed writing over the years on a variety of subjects, occasionally for “publication”, usually simply for the enjoyment of it.

But I didn’t— and don’t— have any expertise when it comes to the world of blogging and wasn’t particularly aware of just how much hockey information was “out there” already.  So when I started thinking in the summer of ’09 about whether I had something a little different to offer, the area I felt most comfortable writing about was indeed hockey, and specifically the Maple Leafs—and “old-time” Maple Leaf hockey at that.

Initially that’s pretty much what I was thinking, that  I would write a story every few days about my memories of the ‘olden days’, and see if anyone cared or was interested in reading about those kinds of recollections.

As time went on, I realized there was also  interest in commentary on the current Leaf team, though I realize there is no shortage of that— and many others can provide that kind of resource very well.  Still, I’ve attempted to insert a fairly steady stream of current-information posts, along with (I hope) a nice mix of my memories from the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s.

What has evolved is a site with at least five or more posts most weeks and regular visitors from 80 countries around the world.

I hope the site is meeting expectations.  I’m always pleased when someone posts a comment, sends a note (michael@prospectcommunications.com) or submits a piece that we could post here about the great old days.

  1. Hey, Happy Birthday!

Good for you for sticking with it. It takes dedication to continuously produce stuff - I'm a streaky blogger, the John Druce of the blogosphere. Always mad props for people who can consistently produce.

  2. Mike-
Your contribution to preserving and renewing Leafs' history is phenomenal- don't ever forget it. Rare is the day I don't go over your new photos.
