Vintage Leaf posted on a range of things both old and current over the past week.
Ted Lindsay was a hockey warrior, who did a lot to enhance the game’s popularity in the 1950s. We posted an interview with “Terrible Ted” from 1978, when he was the General Manager of the Red Wings and was in the middle of the Rogie Vachon/Dale McCourt free agency controversy. We followed up with a piece on Lindsay’s decorated Hall-of-Fame career.
The Dion Phaneuf trade, of course, generated tons of enthusiastic talk in Leafland last week. But it also triggered memories of two rugged old-time Maple Leafs—Bob “Boomer” Baun and Canadian Olympian, Brian Glennie, who was also part of the 1972 Team Canada-Soviet Summit series.
We also wrote a piece on two of the most colorful characters of the 1960s—Reggie Fleming and the legendary Howie Young.
It was a busy week for the Leafs, with three games, including one heartbreaking loss and plenty to contemplate in terms of the team’s future.
